Boat cruising in The Ocean Race has encounter with group of killer whales

2 boats participating in the The Ocean Race had confrontations with killer whales on Thursday, the race reported

Group JAJO’s “frightening minute” with a pod of 3 whales in the Atlantic Ocean while approaching the Straights of Gibraltar was captured on video. The whale bumped the VO65 class yacht and appeared to take specific interest in the ship’s rudders.

” 3 whales came directly at us and began striking the rudders. Excellent to see the whales, lovely animals, however likewise a harmful minute for us as a group,” Group JAJO skipper Jelmer van Beek stated in the video launched by the race.

” We removed the sails and decreased the boat as rapidly as possible and fortunately after a couple of attacks they disappeared.”

Group JAJO and Mirpuri Trifork Racing, the other boat to report a whale encounter Thursday, both kept in mind that neither boat sustained damage and no injuries happened.
